Ig Nobel Prizes

Every year, the Annals of Improbable Research gives out the Ig Nobel Awards to scientists involved in funny and weird work. Here are some examples of the questions which led to the work for which winners were awarded:

Marc Abrahams, who started the Ig Nobels, was quoted as explaining the weird mix of silliness and seriousness in an ABC article:

“A lot of things we now call breakthroughs were once considered pretty crazy.”

This definitely seems to be the case, especially in cases where people who are criticizing scientific research can’t actually explain why they believe them to be “projects that have little or nothing to do with the public good.”

The complete list of awards, along with the relevant references, is available here.
